OC Waste & Recycling Launches the 2016 Eco Challenge Poster Contest
Contestants will compete to be an Honorary Bat Kid at an Angels baseball game as they step up to the plate to help promote green waste and food waste recycling. With a vision of focusing attention on recycling green waste and food waste, OC Waste & Recycling invites young Orange County artists to enter the 2016 Eco Challenge Poster Contest.
Youth between the ages of 8 and 14 can submit a poster between now and Thursday, June 30, 2016 to be eligible to win the Eco Challenge Poster Contest. The artwork must be original as opposed to computer-generated; full rules and eligibility details are available on the OC Bat Kids contest information page. This year’s theme, “Batting for a Green Planet,” focuses on ways to keep green waste and food waste out of landfills and to recycle or reuse it in ways that benefit communities and the environment. Poster artists will help all Orange County residents by depicting California’s expanded recycling effort — moving beyond recycling just bottles, cans and paper to keeping green waste and food waste out of Orange County’s landfills beginning in 2020.
Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett reminds residents that “food waste and green waste comprise 37 percent of the waste currently being buried at landfills. Poster contest participants are going to help us all learn how to recycle these materials through their artwork. New municipal organics recycling programs will call for a new way of thinking. The County of Orange wants families to prepare for this change,” added Chairwoman Bartlett.
Contestants may bring or mail entries to Discovery Cube in Santa Ana by June 30, 2016. A panel of judges will select one winning poster from each of Orange County’s five Supervisorial Districts. These five young artists will be awarded the status of Honorary Bat Kid during an Angels home game in 2016.
The Bat Kid experience includes:
· Pre-game Angels meet & greet inside their dugout
· Four tickets to watch the game
· Official Bat Kid jersey
· Professional photo on the field
· And much more!
