4/21/16 at 10:10am: Update on Water Testing Downtown Main/Walnut: The City has tested the water and will continue to test it. Results indicate the water is safe. As a result of the break, you may experience discolored water in the downtown areas. Other key information:
• City utilities staff has been performing regular water testing & monitoring in the downtown area yesterday and today to ensure the water quality meets drinking water standards.
• The color is a result of high velocity water flowing in the mainlines that caused a scouring action in the pipes and dislodged fine sediment particles (minerals & other deposits) that accumulate in the pipes.
• There is no health hazard associated with the discolored water.
• Customers are recommended to flush their taps for a few minutes at each faucet (best to start at tap closest to water meter) to clear the color. Toilets should be flush last and may take several flushes.
