Wireless Communications Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way Wireless Application

The City recently acquired 11,000 streetlights from Southern California Edison (SCE). These new vertical assets provide opportunities for the implementation and installation of smart city initiatives and the collaboration between the City and the telecommunications industry as they seek to deploy small cell technology. On September 22, 2017 the City's revised Zoning Code relating to the permitting of small cell technology in the public right-of-way went into effect. The Zoning Code section can be found here. The purpose of the Zoning Text Amendment was to streamline the process for permitting small cells that meet our design standards within the public right-of-way.

This section of the Zoning Code establishes regulations pertaining to the location, siting, development, design, and permitting of wireless communications facilities in both the public right-of-way and on private property. Should you wish to site a facility on private property, or property owned by a public agency (public parks, etc.) please visit the Community Development Department

The Public Works Department permits wireless telecommunication equipment on streetlights located in the public right-of-way that fit into the City's design criteria
